Job Description / Duties:
- As a member of the Toon Goons Art team, your work will fall into two categories:
Retail Caricature Art:
- As a live caricature artist in a retail setting, you will create personalized caricature drawings for customers, capturing their likeness in a fun and exaggerated style. You’ll interact with guests, provide an engaging experience, and then send them off with a memorable and quality piece or art.
- Alongside drawing, you’ll also be responsible for other various retail obligations such as promoting additional products (travel tubes, frames for your artwork, etc.), and maintaining the retail booth’s appearance.
- Retail work will run through the duration of the summer, with more work available into the fall and winter months. Festivals may take place on weekends or during evening hours, but flexibility is offered and we’re happy to accommodate your availability when planning schedules.
Compensation: Artists will make whichever is greater: Either 20% commission on all sales + tips or $20 CAD per hour.
Event Caricature Art:
- Artists will draw caricatures of guests at prepaid events such as weddings, holiday parties, and corporate events.
- Events work will take place at various times year-round including evenings and weekends. All event work is optional, and operates on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Compensation: Artist compensation for events starts at $75.00 CAD per hour, plus tips. Additional compensation may be available for travel time, overtime, and special requests.
Soft skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers.
- Attention to detail and desire to create high quality artwork for customers.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Dependable and punctual attendance.
Artistic skills:
Required:
- Proficient to high-level drawing ability. (Note: All applicants will be required to submit a portfolio or samples of their artwork that showcase their artistic abilities.)
Valued but not required:
- Portrait drawing or caricature experience. (Don’t worry if you’ve never drawn a caricature before - Toon Goons Art provides a weeklong, paid caricature training to prospective applicants!)
- Experience drawing from life.
- Understanding of human facial anatomy.
- Ability to draw quickly without sacrificing quality.
General requirements:
- Applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older.
- Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Applicants must be able to stand for extended periods of time, as the role involves working on your feet for prolonged durations during events or retail shifts.
- Applications must be located in or around the Toronto area.
